This position is located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, in the Division of Resource Management and Science. TERM positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed 13 months, with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Duties

As a professional historical landscape architect, you specialize in the identification, documentation, planning and preservation of cultural landscapes and other associated properties. Duties include: Perform landscape architectural duties associated with review, design, treatment, and monitoring of historic and prehistoric cultural landscapes. Participate in National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 consultation and compliance activities as they relate to cultural landscapes and historic districts. Collaborate on interdisciplinary teams at the park level to promote cultural resource and historic preservation stewardship goals and objectives; including review and preparation of NRHP nominations. Provide technical assistance and subject matter expertise as it relates to cultural landscapes and districts.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/12/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for the Landscape Architect, GS-11 position you must meet the basic requirements for the Landscape Architect GS-0807 AND the Specialized Experience. A copy of your transcripts is required, failure to provide your transcripts WILL result in an ineligible rating (unofficial transcripts will be accepted). Basic Requirement: You must meet one of the following options: A. A 4-year or higher degree in landscape architecture or landscape design. -OR- B. A combination of education and experience: for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had one year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design. NOTE: The following kinds of experience are not acceptable as professional Landscape Architecting experience: routine drafting or developing of plans where original investigations or designs are not involved; laying out or executing illustrations in black and white or in color; nursery work involving the propagation of trees, shrubs, vines; experimental horticultural, or landscape, gardening; breeding, testing, propagation, culture, and production of plants, flowers, trees, or corps; forestry work involving the management of forest resources for the continuous production of timber, water, forage, and other forest values; architectural and engineering work limited to the design of structures; work in city and community planning that relates primarily to the broad social and economic growth of cities and communities and the organization of community services and facilities. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: (1) Providing Design Review and Adverse Effect assessment and mitigation for Section 106 Compliance Review; (2) Prepare Cultural Landscape Inventories and Reports that meet National Register standards; (3) Prepare Treatment Plans that meet Secretary of the Interior's Standards; (4) Knowledge of the care, protection, and significance of historical orchards desirable. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (must be directly related). -OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in landscape architect. You must include transcripts (unofficial transcripts will be accepted). -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
