This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Fort Cavazos rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove.

Duties

Assist in the manufacture of new equipment, making repairs and modifications to all types of industrial and facilities equipment. Perform apprentice welder duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes. Position, align, fit and weld parts to form complete unit or sub-units, following blueprints and layout specifications, using jigs, welding torches and hand tools. Perform safety inspections in industrial, manufacturing or repair setting Operate motor vehicles up to and including pickups, half ton truck, and 6K forklifts to transport self, others, equipment, materials and supplies to work sites throughout the installation.

Requirements

  • Position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • Business travel is 5%.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven. Do you now possess, or are you willing to obtain and maintain the appropriate licenses?
  • This position requires incumbent to work an on-call work schedule to respond to after-hours emergencies. This may include, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) WELDING WORKER~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to do the work of a(n) ~ without more than normal supervision. have the ability to perform common Welding Worker duties. I am skilled performing apprentice welder duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shielded welding processes. I can assist journeyman with fabrication and welding of pressure pipe. I can use templates, jigs, blueprints and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal items for all types of equipment. Make a wide range of welds from simple to precision welding; determining disassembly or repair necessary, and materials to be used. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical Effort: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, climbing, crawling, and sometimes working in cramped and awkward positions. Incumbent frequently handles, lifts, or carries parts or equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifting objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds with the aid of lifting devices/other employees to set up work and equipment needed to complete tasks. Working Conditions: The work is done indoors and outdoors, sometimes in bad weather. Incumbent is subject to noise, dirt, smoke, fumes, heat, sparks, and the glare of torches and heated materials. There is possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. There is discomfort from wearing protective equipment such as goggles, welding helmets, face shields, aprons, gloves or other protective clothing or equipment.
