The United States Marshals Service (USMS) is the Nation's oldest and most versatile federal law enforcement agency. The missions of the Marshals Service include protection of the judiciary, court security, witness security, asset forfeiture, apprehension of fugitives, apprehending and prosecuting unregistered sex offenders, and prisoner transportation and custody.
Duties
The trainee works with Deputy United States Marshals (DUSM) and supervisors to acquire knowledge and skill in all functional areas under the office. He/she performs highly structured, entry-level work designed to develop broader and more in-depth knowledge and skill required to perform higher-level assignments.
Reviews pertinent regulations, policies, and procedures to effectively apply principles, concepts, and work process to limited and select work assignments.
Assists in the preparation of, or prepares, presentations related to work assignments and with locating various case files documents and/or other material to make determination on status and tries to resolve problems or issues.
Retrieves and provides information related to the specific case using a variety automated data systems (CAPTURE, NCIC etc.), including spreadsheets, other LEO databases.
Completes required formal and on-the-job training and demonstrates an increasing ability to independently accomplish assignments.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following: Applicants must be current students pursuing a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher AND maintain at least a half time or full-time course load.
AND GS-04:Completion of two (2) full academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.GS-05: Completion of four (4) academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
This position has a basic educational requirement. Individuals applying for this position must be enrolled in a degree program directly related to the position. In order to be eligible for conversion into the competitive service, the incumbent must meet the degree requirements, as governed by the Office of Personnel Management, for this position. Applicants must also provide documentation from the educational institution verifying current enrollment with at least a half time or full-time course load. This documentation may be a Current Enrollment Verification Certificate or a statement of current enrollment or acceptance letter (which verifies all of the required information).If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
