About the Position: This position is at the district project office. The incumbent will be assisting and working with the Operations Project Manager with the day-to-day operations of projects and assigned program areas.

Duties

Developing various recreation programs to provide quality services for visitors. Implementing assessments as a baseline for measuring impacts of public use on various resources. Developing quality assurance plans for contracts. Resolving issues and discrepancies found on contracting documents and/or evaluations. Conducting public relations services for the general public and for special groups such as eco-meets, environmental awareness events, and safety promotions. Participating in in public meetings on matters affecting programs/projects.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may require a Driver's License.
  • Position is subject to a one-year probationary period.
  • This position may require TDY or business travel up to 10%.
  • This position may require an Herbicide Applicator's License.
  • This position may require a Boat Operator License.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for the Natural Resources Specialist - Ranger A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS 11: One year of specialized experience which includes meeting three of the following: 1) participating in programs designed to protect and further enhance fish, wildlife, and/or forest resources, 2) Conducting field inspections, 3) Assisting the Operations Project Manager (OPM) with daily project operations and/or developing essential planning documents, such as emergency and management plans, and 4) Collaborating with internal and external contacts . This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Contract ManagementFacilities Operations and MaintenanceNatural Resource ManagementOral Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
