You will serve as a PIPEFITTER LEADER in the TEMPORARY SERVICES SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will pass on instructions received from supervisors to workers assigned. You will instruct pipefitter mechanics, workers, helpers and ship's force personnel in the skills of the trade. You will maintain a current knowledge and answer questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE Installing and operating on various high-pressure piping systems and equipment such as: steam heating, steam generation, vacuum systems, radiators, and circulating pumps. Instructing subordinates on work steps or requirements using shop training tools such as: mock-ups, in shop work areas or facilities, and on deck plates. Demonstrating proper work methods, reporting to supervisor on status of work and causes for delays, planning, laying out, and completing the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of various piping systems and equipment. Work with others to perform duties such as: layout, cutting, bending, threading, and assembling pipe and fittings from blueprints and sketches on various shop machinery and equipment. Interpreting and applying blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical instructions and work orders to perform assigned job duties.
