Duties
Examines, identifies and verifies a variety of materials, complete equipment items, technical components, parts, and commodities.
Receives, checks, verifies, sorts and classifies materials and equipment by stock number, size, classification and condition.
Uses technical manuals to identify and verify materials.
Determines the correct condition code, classification, reparability or non-reparability of items and estimates economic feasibility or cost of repair.
Initiates records to document receiving and processing discrepancies and material defects found during phases of examination.
Operates forklifts with a capacity of lifting loads weighing up to 15,000 lbs and related materials handling equipment to deliver, relocate, up-load, off-load, and move materials and equipment.
Responsible for the inspection, control, transfer, containment and/or confinement of ozone depleting substances at time of receipt, storage, and issue.

- You will be a Mission Essential employee. This requires you to work during an emergency to ensure continuation of essential functions. You may be required to work at the designated duty location, a telework site, or an alternate location/facility.
- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position. The incumbent may be required to report to work in the event of a natural disaster, inclement weather, or crisis.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification to handle ozone depleting substances.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Effort: Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Bending, stooping, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. Uses weight handling equipment or receives assistance from other workers for items heavier than 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: Works outside and inside areas that are hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Subject to cuts, scrapes, bruises, muscle strain, noise, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock. May be exposed to chemicals such as ODS material and various cleaning solvents. Wears protective clothing such as steel toed shoes, respirators, safety glasses and earplugs. Inside typical receiving and storage areas, fans and heaters moderate (but do not eliminate) seasonal extremes of temperature. In some instances, there may be no moderation at all. Incumbent may also work on adjacent lots where seasonal extremes are not moderated, or are even exaggerated (i.e., inside vans). Risk of shifting and/or falling loads is present (i.e., when material is being pulled from or placed into pallet racks). Other hazards include working on and around MHE and other moving vehicles. Incumbent is regularly exposed to noise, dirt, fumes, and vibrations. Safety shoes are always required. Ear plugs and/or gloves will be worn depending on the task at hand
