About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. Duties
Resolve problems concerning machining operations.
Perform precision handwork to assemble machined parts.
Determine machine speed to attain required finish tolerances.
Identify which tools can be utilized on different types or metals.
Check the measurements or layouts to ensure the accuracy of dimensions.
Fabricate parts from different kinds of metals such: as nickel, titanium, alloys, etc.
Set up automatic machine tools requiring extensive mathematical computations for operating.
Utilize machine tools such as: lathes, mills machines, or grinders for machining surfaces with unusual or compound angles.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs.
- May be required to travel (TDY) 10% of the time for business purposes.
- Must obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the employer.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years and can be made permanent without further competition.
- Temporary appointment may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years but cannot be made permanent.
- Time Limited Detail NTE may be made or extended at management discretion.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machinist without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Machinist duties which include: working from blueprints, sketches, work orders, and models of parts to be made; determining which machine tool would best be used for each operation to be performed; and making job setups on different types of equipment involving accurate alignment in order to maintain specified tolerances. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts:Required to stand, stoop, bend and reach, and frequently handles objects weighing 10 pounds and occasionally objects up to 40 pounds. Hoist, hand trucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items.
Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding,oil from machines, dirt, heat, noises, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metalchips, dust in the lungs, cuts bruises, injuries to hands from use of machine and hand tools, skinirritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and to strains frominfrequent moving. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes and other safety apparel and equipment.
