About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Army Medical Center Madigan, Department of Emergency Medicine, located at Tacoma, Washington.
Duties
As a Supply Technician you will assist with medical supply operations by performing a variety of clerical functions to obtain/purchase supplies for the unit.
Conduct inventories, quality control and storage required for maintaining stock levels of standard and nonstandard, expendable and nonexpendable medical and non-medical supplies and equipment.
Provide statistical information to supervisory chain regarding expenditures for durable and expendable supplies.
Input data through the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) system to find items, compare prices of alternate sources, order items, and telephonically submit work requests to Facilities Management (FM).
Determine whether needed supplies or acceptable substitutes are readily available through the Logistics Division Material Branch or through a mandatory supply source such as Prime Vendor.
Log in purchases, keep charge slip or shipping document for proof of purchase, verify purchases and credits shown on monthly cardholder statement, and closely monitor all purchases which are not yet invoiced.
Provide student, temporary and assigned employees training on safe handling and use of products.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to do heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes interpreting medical and surgical terminology sufficient to understand medical supply requirements; understanding basic aseptic principles to ensure proper handling, care, and storage of sterile and non-sterile supplies; utilizing automated software to order supplies and equipment and maintain supply inventory; and performing a variety of clerical functions to obtain/purchase supplies for the unit. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
