Duties

You will set up and operate unconventional machines such as a jig, bore, automatic bar and chucker machine and the Monarch 150 Numerical Controlled Vertical Milling Program Machine with three axes. You will set up and operate conventional machines such as lathes, horizontal boring mills, shapers, planers, and radial drills. You will lay out work from blueprints, samples, sketches, and work orders using shop mathematics and handbook formulas to compute dimensions. You will provide machining, cutting operations, heat treating, operations required to disassemble, repair, modify, and overhaul motor transport, ordnance, engineer, general purpose, and other support equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance to machine tools. You will keep tools, machines and equipment clean and safe for use.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Examples of Machinist tasks include setting up and operating unconventional machines (i.e jigs, bores, automatic bar and chucker machines, computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools, and etc.); fabricating new parts from raw materials such as bulk stock, castings, forgings, weldments, and reclaims; AND utilizing precision handwork to fit, finish, and assemble machined items into major assemblies as an expert with a high degree of independence.
