This position is located within the US National Poultry Research Center, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Southeast Area (SEA), in Athens, GA.
In this position, you will be responsible for providing clerical support such as using office automation software packages to create and edit a variety of standard documents for the US National Poultry Research Center.
Duties
Uses offices automation equipment and software to type, edit, and create a variety of standard documents in accordance with established procedures.
Prepares and types travel authorizations, vouchers, and other standard office forms.
Receives incoming telephone calls and visitors and refers them to appropriate staff members. Receives, reviews, and routes incoming mail to office staff.
Serves as alternate/backup timekeeper, prepares, and transmits Time and Attendance records for office staff.
Types final, error-free documents, ensuring correct punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and grammar.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt
- Must be in good academic standing and hold a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.0
- Complete at least 640 hrs of work experience prior to completion of degree
- Enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution
- A signed participant agreement is required for employment under Pathways
- Satisfactory Background investigation and/or fingerprint check
- Successful completion of two-year trial period

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education as defined below.
PATHWAYS PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment from a qualifying educational institution on a full or half-time basis. Applicants must be seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) and be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or equivalent) throughout the duration of their program. Please see "Required Documents". The duties of the position must be related to either the student's academic or career goals that are related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
GS-03:
Education: Completion of one (1) academic year of post-high school study.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
GS-04:
Education: Completion of two (2) full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
GS-05:
Education: Completion of four (4) academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
Applicant must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
Applicants will be assessed/evaluated through application of the agency developed qualification standard for internship positions, which is based solely on level of education.
