Duties

Joining Customs and Border Protection, Office Information and Technology will allow you to use your expertise in Information Technology (IT) principles, concepts and methods to support IT systems and services. This position starts at a salary of $103,409.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $134,435.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $134,435 (GS-13 Step 10). In this Information Technology (IT) Specialist (Security) position, you will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and managing security programs for the agency. Major duties of this position include: Acting as Key Operator Account Manager for the Key Management Infrastructure System and understanding Cyber Security policies, procedures, and guidelines with respect to communication security; to include advance knowledge of cryptographic security measures. Ensuring daily maintenance, reviews, and backups of Key Management Infrastructure systems as required. Providing recommendation of changes to the design or monitoring of devices to better secure classified information systems, with minimal management review and approval. Conducting, controlling, coordinating, monitoring, and reviewing Communication Security procedures and operation. Supporting Communication Security Account Managers and troubleshooting any Communication Security operational or procedural issues.

Basic Requirement: Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendation You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess one year of specialized experience as described below. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Reviewing Cyber Security policies, procedures, and guidelines with respect to Communications Security; to include, advance knowledge of cryptographic security measures, emissions security, transmission security, and physical security of communications security aids and hardware used to encrypt and protect sensitive or classified communications. Utilizing various Communication Security devices including Key Management Infrastructure and other Communications Security Management Systems and devices. Receiving, processing, and distributing electronic cryptographic keys as required. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 11/06/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
