About the Position: You will function as a Maintenance Worker, performing a wide variety of Maintenance Worker duties involved in the operation, maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, structures, buildings and grounds, requiring the use of various trade practices. These positions are located in OLD HICKORY, TN.
Duties
Makes repairs that can be accomplished by removing, adjusting, or replacing defective or worn parts and components.
Performs routine maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems associated with assigned facilities equipment.
Constructs, maintains, repairs and alters the exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of a variety of brick, block, stone, and related masonry composites.
Makes repairs on building frames, rafters, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, and equipment cabinets.
Operates, controls, and maintains blasting equipment to include hoppers, blasting units, hoses and nozzles, control panels and trigger mechanisms, and dust collector/exhaust systems.
Operates forklifts on uneven conditions to unload vehicles and move materials in outside storage yards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
- Must take a pre-employment physical.
- Must take a pre-employment and random drug test.
- Requires working outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations, on high structures usually over water.
- Requires climbing vertical ladders of up to 100 feet in height; frequently lifts, positions, and carries items such as bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand weighing from 50 to 100 pounds.
- Uses safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, PFDs, hard hats, hard toe shoes, safety belts, respirators, protective clothing and other personal protective equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common duties as a maintenance worker. Rough carpentry work, sandblasting and painting, pipefitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair. Operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to overhead cranes, skid steer, dump truck, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects. Work with close general supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Works from ladders and scaffolds requiring prolonged overhead work or working in cramped or awkward positions. Climbs vertical ladders of up to 100 feet in height. Frequently lifts, positions, and carries items such as bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand weighing from 50 to 100 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed largely outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and energized electrical equipment, and sometimes on floating craft or elevated platforms. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads which are below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury, discomfort, hazardous atmospheres and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, PFDs, hard hats, hard toe shoes, safety belts, respirators, protective clothing and other personal protective equipment. Working conditions have been considered in evaluation of the job, and any instances of environmental differential pay are spelled out in the Negotiated Agreement. Temporary duty assignments may be required for training purposes.
