This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Medical Occupations to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is with the Family & Morale, Welfare, & Recreation, Army Community Services Division, located at Fort Novosel, AL., home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence.
Duties
Provide highly standardized preventive, psycho-educational, intervention services of an advanced nature for active duty military personnel and their families assessed to be at risk for child maltreatment and/or domestic violence.
Develop a specialized Family Care Plan based on the assessment of the family and their unique needs.
Reassess the risk of family maltreatment through a home visitation model.
Provide social case work and individual, group, family consultation, education, and prevention promote maximum benefits from their services provided.
Prepare case management plans and initiate appropriate prevention plans and referrals for therapy with family and others.
Participate in the design and development of special programs services, information, and awareness presentations (e.g. installation newspaper, articles, briefings, brochures describing family programs, and special events).
Collaborate with military and civilian agencies to ensure continuity and appropriate level of care.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. You must also sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Required is a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated state.
- Applicants must possess an active, current registration/license as a professional nurse.

In order to qualify, you must first meet the Basic requirements , education, licensure and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse:
Degree: Graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience evaluating nursing plans and/or caring provided to patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed equivalent at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09) grade level or equivalent..
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Sociology, Public Health Education. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
AND meet Licensure Requirements:
Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.(Note: You must attach a copy of your license.)

This position is a Term appointment NTE 2 years and may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years.
