This position is located in the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Duties
Provide expert leadership, oversight, and direction for all aspects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Federated Learning (FL) programs, projects, and advisory services in support of NCI research programs.
Provide advanced expertise in AI and FL to support the common clinical practice of collecting medical data for patients across multiple domains, such as medical imaging, genomics, electronic health records (EHR), and patient-reported outcomes (PRO).
Develop FL technologies that deploy Natural Language Processing, LLMs or other ML approaches for various purposes, including phenotyping, annotating datasets, adverse event detection, and quality control, to facilitate genomics research.
Provide leadership and scientific expertise in the planning, design, and implementation of FL supported (or involved) basic, clinical, and translational studies as well as population research studies within NCI and/or NCI supported initiatives.
Coordinate the scientific and technical management of FL related contracts within CBIIT and advise other NCI Divisions in FL involved grants/contracts as needed.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the education requirement and specialized experience listed below.
Education Requirement:
In order to meet the Basic Requirements for a Bioinformatics Specialist, GS-0601, you must possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing direction for artificial intelligence and Federated Learning functions to support biomedical research programs; developing artificial intelligence and Federated Learning solutions to support the collection of patient medical data; coordinating and collaborating with other organizations on the development of artificial intelligence or Federated learning solutions; and leading project or development teams that identify and fulfill organizational needs for artificial intelligence or Federated Learning solutions.
