Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Mechanical Engineer. You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.
Duty Location: Fresno, California
Duties
Serves as a journey level engineer to provide professional services to plan, design, and implement operations and maintenance activities on mechanical systems associated with water control facilities and hydroelectric power plants. In addition, designs and reviews related documentation for the preparation of construction and procurement specifications. Engineering features involve mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment installed at dams, hydroelectric powerplants, pumping plants, irrigation control facilities and systems, fish conveyance systems, maintenance buildings, shops, offices, etc.
Plans and organizes operations and maintenance work.
Coordinates with Reclamation personnel and water districts to update and revise the Standard Operating Procedures used by operating personnel.
Provides troubleshooting and engineering support on equipment failures and malfunctions of electrical and mechanical equipment in the Area Office
Reviews designs and plan layouts for installations, modifications and/or replacements involving plant mechanical systems.
Participates in periodic field inspections, maintenance reviews and special examinations of the Region's power and pumping facilities.
Develops performance data on turbine and pump units, irrigation valves, industrial control systems, and other mechanical systems.

GS-07: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience, comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) Applying basic theories of the mechanical engineering discipline for work on construction, services, or supply contracts; 2) Drafting reports suitable for professional and general public audiences; and 3) Supporting senior engineers in investigating problems arising during construction. B. Have successfully completed 1 full year of graduate level education. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of transcripts.

Meet the requirements for Superior Academic Achievement by earning a bachelor's degree with at least one of the following (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher based on a 4.0 scale; (2) a 3.5 GPA or higher for required courses completed in a major field of study during junior and senior year of a 4-year college or university; (3) class standing of upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or a major subdivision of the college, such as the College of Liberal Arts, based on completed courses; or (4) membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society certified by the Association of College Honor Societies, excluding freshman honor societies. In order to be creditable under this provision, superior academic achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position being filled. GS-09: Applicants musthave one full year of specialized experience, comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) Providing input for specifications for construction, services, or supply contracts; 2) Assisting with coordinating design related activities involving multiple groups/offices; 3) Investigating problems arising during construction to assist with recommended solutions; and 4) Contributing to correspondence or technical reports suitable for professional and general public audiences. B. Have successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of transcripts.

C. Have an equivalent combination of the specialized experience and graduate level education described above. (To calculate your combined amount, first determine the amount of your specialized experience as a percentage of the requirement listed in A above. Then determine the amount of your graduate education in excess of one full year (18 semester hours) as a percentage of the requirement listed in B above; then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. GS-11: Applicants must have one full year of specialized experience, comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: 1) Preparing specifications for construction, services, or supply contracts; 2) Coordinating design related activities involving multiple groups/offices; 3) Investigating problems arising during construction to recommend solutions; AND 4) Preparing correspondence or technical reports suitable for professional and general public audiences. B. Have successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Education
This position has a mandatory education requirement. You must submit a copy of college transcript(s) (unofficial copy is acceptable) to support claimed education if substituting education for experience. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. Non-submission will result in being rated not-qualified for the position.
You will be required to provide official college transcripts to verify educational qualifications, if selected. An official transcript must be sent directly from the University's Registrar's office and must be provided from the institution awarding the degree.
