About the Position: This position is located within the Navy Branch Health Clinic in Mayport Florida under the DIR of Clinical Support, Lab/Clinical Pathology. The hours of operation are 8 hour shifts, M-F 0600-1800. The incumbent may be expected to occasionally work over-time.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation using DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.
Duties
Collects patient samples when necessary.
Ensures timely distribution to laboratory sections of all specimens received.
Performs clinical laboratory tests on specimens as ordered.
Evaluates and interprets results to determine if data is complete and valid.
Performs and calculates manual cell counts.
Processes laboratory specimens for shipment.
Performs all required specimen preparations prior to storage and shipment.
Conducts necessary quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
Performs necessary laboratory periodic equipment checks.
Assists in training laboratory personnel, staff and students.
Routine Equipment Setup and Maintenance.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Basic Requirements Medical Technician:
Certificate: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is required.
AND
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade level or equivalentwhich includes performing complex testing in a clinical laboratory setting; maintaining and troubleshooting equipment; and conducting quality control check procedures.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
