This position is assigned to Physical Therapy and provides a wide variety of physical therapy services for patients having a wide range of complex pathologies such as burns, amputees, spinal cord injuries, micro muscular and musculoskeletal and other medical, surgical, and orthopedic pathologies.

Duties

Conducts therapeutic activities for the various physical and medical problems encountered in order to directly appeal to and meet the treatment needs of patients. Determines the objectives, methods, and techniques of therapy to be employed with emphasis on patient needs, and limitations imposed by patient conditions. Correlates the methods and procedures with a wide variety of medical problems, which range from those of a non-traumatic nature of patients, which possess severe physical or mental disabilities including those with secondary complications. Evaluates the effectiveness of physical therapy activities provided in terms of modifying and predicting beneficial outcomes which includes utilizing physical therapy tests and measurements to determine whether medical, surgical or orthopedic procedures are indicated. Maintain current documentation of patient evaluation and progress notes on assigned patients.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Education A graduate or higher level degree that included: A physical therapy curriculum approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs(external link) (CAAHEP) or a professional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained; and Completion of the clinical requirements prescribed by the school. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physical Therapist from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and must have passed the National Physical Therapy Examination administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy(external link) (FSBPT). Note: Applicants who have completed an approved graduate level curriculum and who subsequently completed additional graduate training in a specialized field of clinical practice designed to assure professional competence to practice in the specialty meet the requirements for GS-11. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-11: Conducting patient evaluations for physical therapy; exercising modalities appropriate to carrying out the patient plan of care; experience in Outpatient orthopedic specialty; providing quality care by assessing, interpreting, and evaluating test results; determining physical therapy treatment plans and administering physical therapy treatments; instructing patients, families, and caregivers in home exercise programs; and conducting in-service training with Physical Therapy staff. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
