Duties

You will collect, compute, and compile hydrologic data concerning the quantity, quality, availability, movement and distribution of surface and groundwater, and measure surface water discharge and/or groundwater levels. You will install, adjust, and inspect instruments to ensure collection of accurate and reliable data concerning surface and ground water. You will utilize different engineering and meteorological methods, as well as deviate from standard approaches when installing/maintaining instruments; recognize issues with data when performing analyses, and making adjustments. You will compute and process data used to track river stages (early warning system). You will carry out data collection of ground water using data recorders and other types of specialized instrumentation, perform statistical and technical analysis of hydrologic data from a variety of gauging stations. You will prepare monthly and yearly hydrologic reports, water supply papers, water resource investigations, and other special studies, as well as prepare results for publication. You will design and maintain a domestic water complaint program as well as a hydrologic GIS database that will be used to manage wells located in various watersheds on Camp Pendleton, and assist with GIS field investigations. You will provide hydrologic data to requesting agencies such as; Water Districts, County Flood Control Agencies, State Agencies, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Santa Margarita River Watermaster, contractors, attorneys, and base organizations.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

  • You will be required to work at great heights under extreme weather conditions such as rain, hail, lightning, flash flooding, hot/cold water, and rivers or streams at flood stage.
  • You will be required to travel to work cites in extremely hazardous conditions such as rain rutted mountain roads or rain slicked unimproved roads
  • You will be required to lift up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Work requires regular physical exertion, dexterity, agility, and strenuous physical exertion, such as working where footing is treacherous, crawling in constricted areas, working from ladders, scaffolding, or in fast moving water.

Qualifications

GS-10Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Developing climatological and hydrologic data for engineering projects, performing data collection of ground water levels, analyzing climatological observations, designing hydrologic databases, and participating in on-site reviews and surveys. GS-09Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Developing climatological and hydrologic data for engineering projects, performing data collection of ground water levels, analyzing climatological observations, designing hydrologic databases, and participating in on-site reviews and surveys. Education

Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study.

If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
