This position is located within the Mescalero Service Unit in Mescalero, NM and reports to the Custodial Worker Supervisor.
Duties
The purpose of this position is to provide a sanitary and safe environment for the facility and other buildings at the service unit. The incumbent will be required to work shifts within the normal work week (Monday to Friday), which may include weekends and holidays.
The position performs a variety of cleaning functions in a health care environment that involves the use of heavy equipment, cleaning chemicals, and special procedures for infection control. Cleaning methods include visual cleanliness and bacterial cleanliness in order to meet infection control standards.
Mixes and uses chemicals per directions and follow material safety data sheet guidelines.
Cleans various areas such as patient rooms and bathrooms, public restrooms, exam rooms. halls, walls, floors, windows, offices, outside entrances, etc., wiping surfaces using proper cleaning techniques, universal precautions and chemicals.
Responds to emergency cleaning needs such as infectious/chemical spills, flooding, etc.
Stocks areas with paper supplies, linen, soap, and required chemicals.
Inspects, sorts, folds, counts, stores, and distributes clean linen following standard protocol.
Assists work leader or supervisor in record keeping of supply inventory and usage.
Wears personal protective equipment as required.
Vacuum, sweep, mop floors and maintains floor such as tile (stripping & waxing), carpet (spotting and extracting), and linoleum. Uses heavy equipment such as high-speed polishers and carpet extractors.
Removes non-infectious and infectious waste such as biological materials, blood and other body fluids, soiled linen, and properly handles and disposes in proper containers.
Empties waste baskets, trash containers and carries trash to compactor; cleans waste baskets and trash containers as needed; cleans rooms on special cleaning detail as directed using the proper antiseptic cleaning techniques.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Keeps areas secured and controls the use of issued keys, which supports facility security and safety.
Follows policies for patient confidentiality and standards of conduct at all times.
Performs other Environmental Services related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
