The Veterans Health Administration, at the Phoenix VA Health Care System in the Environmental Management Service is recruiting a Laborer. In this position, you will clean, prepare a job site, load and deliver materials, and/or using a variety of tools, machines, and/or equipment.
Duties
Cleaning and preparing a job site, loading and delivering materials, and using a variety of tools and machines such as blowers, shovels, forklift, power drills, weed eaters, grinders, axe or chain saws, pressure washers, water spraying equipment, street sweepers, power mowers, adjusting blades, cleaning and oiling equipment; utilizing hydraulic and mechanical devices to load and unload supplies from trucks.
Other duties include but are not limited to: hand grading and sloping, digging ditches and trenches, breaking up pavement and curb stone, filling road holes, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Collects trash, empties trash receptacles and recycling stations or other projects assigned.
Setting up four Quad Conference Rooms for meetings and events. Moving furniture and office equipment to various locations.
Work Schedule: 40 hours a week, days off are determined by the needs of the service.
Summer Season: April - October 4:00 am - 12:30 pm
Winter Season: November - March 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

Physical Requirements: The work requires the ability to lift and carry over 50 pounds. The employee exerts very heavy physical effort in operating large and specialized equipment, riding mowers on grades and in areas with bushes, trees, and other obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, & climb. Frequently lifting and carrying.
Working Conditions: Work is in extreme heat and cold and unfavorable weather conditions, drafts, noise, dust, and dirt. The work frequently requires the use of safety equipment such as safety gloves, ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators to avoid severe injuries.
