About the Position: Serves as an Inspector General (IG) within the Assistance Division, Department of the Army Inspector General Agency.
Duties
Conduct high priority sensitive inquiries directed by the Assistance Division Chief, and investigations directed by The Inspector General.
Conduct investigative actions to collect necessary evidence, to include documentation and witness statements.
Evaluate the sufficiency of evidence collected.
Prepare formal reports of investigation and investigative inquiry.
Review and prepare case correspondence to include routine administrative office forms.
Prepare Reports of Investigative Inquiry, briefings, and executive summaries.
Review of alleged impropriety, efficacy, or advisability of entire programs, work methods or procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Recommend whether the matter is appropriate for an investigative inquiry, formal investigation, assistance, or teaching and training.
Determine the appropriate form in which statements will be obtained (e.g., interviews, sworn testimony).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- You may be expected to travel up to 40% for this position.
- Must be able to obtain an Inspector General (IG) certificate from the Inspector General School upon completion of the three week IG Training. Incumbent is subject to removal if unable to obtain certification at the end of training.
- Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) database to screen for substantiated and ongoing IG investigations. See Additional Information.
- This position requires the incumbent to attend and pass the Inspector General School.
- Must be able to maintain IG credentials.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: conducting investigative actions to collect necessary evidence; preparing formal complaint reports; and determining appropriate course of action on submitted formal inquiries. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
