About the Position: Incumbent will serve as the Personnel Security Specialist, assisting and reporting to the Chief, Security, Mobile District. Responsible for independently developing and recommending command personnel security policy, directives, and implementing guidance.
Duties
Determines the impact of potential adverse or derogatory information, exercises personal judgment and discretion to evaluate the nature of information received and its potential effect upon security, and recommends appropriate action.
Provides guidance for the issuance of all types of personnel security clearances.
incumbent is responsible for properly transferring or destroying sensitive information, security investigations and files.
Analyzes derogatory information received on personnel from various sources, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Criminal Investigative Service (CIS), CAF, etc.
Collaborates with the Command Security Manager in maintaining security clearance and background investigation records, providing all required information to CAF for adjudications
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position may require TDY 10% of the time.
- This position is required to obtain and maintain the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) in the Security Professional Education Program (SPeD) within 18 months of accepting position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Implements the Organization's security programs relative to force protection, personnel security, information security, security education/training, and safety. 2.) Facilitates the review of initial background checks and interim clearance decisions for personnel working with the Organization.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
