Duties

As a Laboratory Quality Management Specialist you will: Implement and maintenance of quality management system/essentials program and plan. Adhere to applicable guidelines and regulations, such as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other national and international standards/accreditations. Maintain required certifications and professional expertise in a science field/research quality control or assurance clinical laboratory standards, guidelines, and regulations. Define or develop studies of processes and/or systems for targeted areas, including protocols; equipment; materials/equipment handling; storage and transport; and technologies related to quality standards. Monitor required competency assessments for staff to ensure completion of required certifications, and/or recommend additional training opportunities. Comply with requirements to successfully complete the initial and yearly safety training.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: ensure compliance with laboratory quality management systems and regulatory improvement, staff training, and developing standard operating procedures. . Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.
