You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (NUCLEAR) in the Nuclear Quality and Engineering Assessment Branch of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Duties

You will be responsible for identifying deficiencies in compliance with NAVSEA and Shipyard quality control and radiological control requirements. You will plan and perform quality engineering audits/evaluations of selected aspects of reactor plant work and processes used at the Shipyard to identify problem areas. You will write detailed reports of the results of these audits/evaluations with the assistance of the Supervisor or other qualified auditors. You will review technical work documents to identify technical and quality problems areas and declining trends. You will represent the shipyard in dealing with outside activities and representatives in all matters pertaining to assigned projects.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For the GS 12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector planning and conducting quality engineering audits or evaluations of nuclear reactor plant work procedures and radiological controls (e.g., overhaul and repair of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants), identifying and resolving deficiencies and recommending changes to technical documents, specifications and instructions. For the GS 11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector leading engineering technical work in support of nuclear reactor/propulsion plants (e.g., overhaul and repair of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants), managing radiological control procedures and practices to ensure compliance with technical specifications and instructions and reporting any identified deficiencies.
