Duties
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, overhaul, and surveillance testing of electronic components, medical equipment and systems, and modifications based on official guidance.
Diagnose problems with the quality of images and signals as required by medical professionals based on the equipment, network, and medical procedure being performed.
Recommend solutions to electro-mechanical and electronic problems that involve tolerance, component failure, and marginal operating characteristics.
Prepare plans of instruction and conducts training of procedures, techniques, and methods of operations, testing and calibrating medical systems and test measurement diagnostic equipment for staff personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.

- A pre-placement medical examination is required.

Basic Requirement for Electronics Technician (Biomedical):
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing technical support of various patient care equipment (such as installing, repairing, calibrating); maintaining medical electronic equipment and/or systems; and testing patient care equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Two and a half years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 9. Add the two percentages.
