These positions are located in San Juan National Historic Site, in the Fee Program Division.

Duties
Serve as a front-line uniformed representative of the NPS.
Provide current and accurate information to visitors concerning the NPS area and other surrounding areas of interest.
Explain the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, wilderness/backcountry permits, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
Distribute maps, brochures, and other printed material, inform visitors of potential safety hazards, and provide directions and routes of travel.
Collect appropriate fees at a park entrance station, visitor center, campground, fee cannister, automated fee machines (AFMs), donation boxes, and/or other visitor contact stations.
Operate an electronic cash register, computer, or point-of-sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions.
Perform opening and closing shift functions.
Issue entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, park passes, and/or federal recreation passes.
Complete shift reports to verify money collected, accountable stock sold, and all machine transactions.
Safeguard funds collected and accountable stock.
Use automated reservation systems to process routine, simple payments, transactions, and reservations for tours, tickets, Special Use Permits, etc.
Explain rules and regulations to reservation holders and disseminate park information.
These are Career-Seasonal positions. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work approximately 50 weeks a year, and you will be in a non-pay status for 2 weeks within the months of May to September based on seasonal workload.
Area Information
San Juan National Historic Site consists of a system of 400+ year Spanish fortifications and bastions that encircle the 500-year-old City of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is the smallest island of the Greater Antilles chain. The island is 35 miles wide and 100 miles long with the highest elevation at 3000 feet.
Average island temperature year-round is 82-87 degrees during the day and 72-77 degrees at night. The San Juan metropolitan area has all amenities including excellent health services and retail stores. Recreational opportunities can be found island wide.
San Juan airport is located 7 miles from the park and is serviced by most major airlines with nonstop flights to major hubs. Flight time to Miami is 2.5 hours and Atlanta is 3.5 hours. Cost of living is considered moderate.
Puerto Rico has a 11.5% of sales tax. Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) is 2.63%
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement 11/08/2024 unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position requires candidates to be able to fluently read, speak, and write in both English and Spanish language. To qualify for this position at the GS-04 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of general experience obtained in either the public or private sectors. This experience includes activities such as: clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled such as operating an electronic cash register, providing information in both English and Spanish, and dealing with a high volume of personal contacts. You must include hours per week worked in your resume or you will not receive consideration for this position.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 2 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. You must include transcripts if qualifying based on education.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
