About the Position: This position is located within the Ireland Army Health Clinic, Fort Knox, Kentucky. The incumbent will serve as a Referral Management Coordinator who will work under general supervision of the Supervisory Nurse (Admin), Managed Care Division, Referral Coordination Center, who outlines assignments according to objectives, priorities, and deadlines. The employee independently carries out with work. Work is reviewed to ensure conformance with policy.
Duties
Gather medical and personal information pertinent to program eligibility and beneficiary needs.
Coordinate care with Medical Treatment Facility staff, external health professionals, Veterans Affairs (VA) health care systems and the Managed Care Support Contractor.
Educate staff, healthcare professionals, and beneficiaries on consult tracking procedures.
Maintain database to process and document requests for care.
Oversee the timely execution of consult tracking for all TRICARE beneficiaries.
Answer questions regarding Medical Treatment Facility functions in order to answer inquiries and provide information.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position May be subject to completion of a personnel General Inquiry in DEERS (GQID)/ Tier 3, IT 2, non-critical sensitive level background investigation for the purpose of accessing Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.

To Qualify for the GS-07:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Maintaining electronic database 2) Coordinating specialty care referrals 3) Reviewing medical referrals for accuracy 4) Resolving insurance enrollment issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Healthcare Administration or Healthcare Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement for the GS-07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
To Qualify for the GS-06:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Maintaining electronic database 2) Coordinating specialty care referrals 3) Reviewing medical referrals for accuracy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Healthcare Administration or Healthcare Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement for the GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Position will be filled at the GS-7 level with noncompetitive promotion to the full performance level of GS-08 is authorized; pending time in grade requirements and demonstrated ability to perform the next higher/target level grade duties
