The position is in the Electric Shop with the Facilities Management Service (FMS) and works under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Electrician. The primary purpose of the position involves journeyman Electronics Mechanic work, involving maintaining, repairing, installing, modifying, troubleshooting, testing, and inspecting of real and personal property. Performs work in support of preventive maintenance, repair, and inspection programs.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for installation, troubleshooting, modification, overhaul, maintenance and repair of complex electronics equipment and complete operational systems consisting of numerous integral components which requires knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles, theories, and practices.
Responsible for repairs, calibrates, troubleshoots, and maintains electronic systems and nonmedical electronic instrumentation and devices used in facility operation applications within the medical center and in other non-medical electronic applications such as
working closely with and advises VAPD on AMAG installation and repairs and security camera placement, installation, and troubleshooting.
Independent judgements and decisions regarding methods and procedures for completing assignments that may involve extending the use of conventional test equipment, and improvising fault analysis, repair, and calibration techniques.
Responsible for making further tests and alignments to ensure that the completed equipment is aligned and functioning properly.
Instruct personnel in the operation of nurse call, intrusion alarm, fire alarm and paging systems and make modifications to systems and equipment to suit the particular situation.
Perform and document preventive maintenance and safety inspections to insure safe, proper, and reliable operation of these instruments and devices.
Responsible for functional equipment safety regarding the operator and any other effected equipment user.
Instruct other electronics mechanics, electricians, HVAC mechanics, equipment users and others on the proper use, capability, and maintenance of electronic equipment.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Work requires
standing, reaching, bending, climbing, and stooping as the work site dictates. May work above ground level and in confined spaces. Lift and carry items weighing 40 pounds unassisted and items weighing in excess of 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with the assistance from other workers and set up tools, equipment, and parts necessary to the job.
