This position is located at Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Inspector General, Office of Legal Counsel. As General Counsel, you will work with the Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) to develop and carry out programs mandated by the Inspector General Act and its amendments, and provide guidance and support to the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General, and AIGs as a strategic business advisor.
Duties
As General Counsel, you will:
- Independently provide the full range of professional legal services and advice with respect to the formulation, coordination, revision, and execution of the entire OIG program. As requested by the Department of Justice (DOJ), provide additional support as special prosecutors or Special Assistant United States Attorneys.
- At the request of the IG or DIG, represent the agency before HUD, DOJ, the President's Council on Integrity and Efficiency (including the Council of Counsels), state and local governments, and other organizations. Speak for the IG and DIG in regard to the IG's legal opinions concerning all OIG-related issues.
- Review and analyze all internal program policies and formulate new policies through negotiation, the setting of precedents, and the continual analysis of the scope of the IG Act and its amendments.
- Direct the legal program of the Office of Inspector General through a staff of attorneys.

MTQ 1: Substantial knowledge of and demonstrated experience leading teams that provide legal advice supporting an Office of Inspector General, Federal agency, or organization participating in Federal programs, including demonstrated experience providing legal advice related to oversight, compliance, and/or enforcement in federal programs.
MTQ 2: Demonstrated experience analyzing complex legal problems, making sound decisions, and providing timely legal and policy advice to senior leaders of an organization.
MTQ 3: Demonstrated experience handling or supervising litigation in Federal court or before administrative bodies.
Education
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and be a member in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar.
