This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Incumbent serves as a Maintenance Worker and Facility Maintenance Inspector for the Laurel Power Plant performing a variety of maintenance, operation and inspection duties at the London, KY location.

Duties

Provide support work involved in the tear down (disassembly and reassembly) of the main generator and all of its components. Move and install gates and bulkheads for unwatering equipment for service and maintenance purposes. Provide support in the repair, cleaning, installation and testing of electrical equipment of various voltage ranges from 24 volts DC to 125 volts DC and 120 volts AC to 161,000 volts AC throughout the powerhouse, dam, and switchyard. Clean, prime, paint, and applies protective coatings to equipment located in and around the powerhouse, dam, and switchyard. Perform various types of welding in the repair and fabrication of equipment for the powerhouse, dam, and switchyard. Provide support in the installation of all types of piping and plumbing to include iron, PVC, CPVC, Copper, galvanized, and Victaulic fitted piping. Fabricate and build various items in and around the power plant to include tool boards, boxes, safety and equipment boards and storage bins. Repair concrete bases for motors, pumps, and piping supports.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common mechanics, plumbing, painting and/or welding. I can maintain, repair, and overhaul various mechanical equipment/machines, and use electrical test devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, growlers, and meggers to perform basic checks. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Frequently handles objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds and over. Required to push, pull, reach, walk, and stand for prolonged periods; crawl, kneel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery for sustained periods of time. Working Conditions: Performs work inside and outside. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. Frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. Subject to electrical shock, changing climatic conditions, water hazards and loud noises. Occasionally climb and work from ladders and scaffoldings exposing to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, fumes, dust and dampness are frequently encountered. Works around heavy machinery, with and around power shop equipment. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are used.
