About the Position: Serves as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, nucleonic, optical/laser, physical and dimensional measurements applicable to the secondary transfer level calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement,and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

Duties

Perform calibrations within various parameters and/or evaluation of complex calibration lab reference standards. Maintain and/or perform repairs to calibration as required to ensure effective performance of equipment. Advise users in the application of and/or calibration requirements of specialized equipment in support of their mission. Implement technical procedures required by changing user and/or equipment requirements. Run diagnostics on equipment to ensure efficient performance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

I have the ability to perform common tasks as a Precision Measurement Equipment Calibrator. I can perform calibration operations on various types of electronic, electrical and/or electromechanical measurement systems; interpret simple technical procedures and schematics in order to adapt them to calibration assignments; and diagnose or repair Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage, high pressure,high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation. Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.
