Duties
You will prune or cut down diseased, dead, fallen or damaged trees, often when they have fallen or are about to fall on power lines, buildings or roads.
You will conduct tree surveys. Prune trees and shrubs to obtain proper balance between roots and top growth and to modify or retain natural form.
You will care for a variety of trees and shrubs. You will recognize and treat plant diseases and apply fertilizers.
You will work from dump truck, ladders and as necessary, climb into tree, uses ropes, knots, rigging, and hitches; operates equipment such as chain saws, motorized winches, block and tackle, and shredder-grinder machines.
You will operate various grounds maintenance equipment such as tractor with towed mowers to cut grass, stump grinder, tree spade, and dump trucks up to 5 tons.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Emergency overtime may be required.
- Must be able to safely and properly wear all personal protective equipment including respiratory protection respirator required of the trade/shop.
- A pre-employment physical is required.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - with air brakes within six months of employment date.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid government driver's license. Training for the government driver's license will be provided by the government.
- The position is mission essential.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to do the work of the position without normal supervision performing common tasks including: perform tree maintenance, to include but is not limited to; climbing, pruning, removing and generally caring for Marine Corps Base Quantico's large population of trees.
