Duties
Serves as a working leader of three or more employees in accomplishing animal caretaker work. The highest non-supervisory work led is Animal Caretaker NA-5048-05.
Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, assigning immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led.
Checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines, and urges or advises other employees to follow the instructions and to meet deadlines.
Works along with other workers, setting the pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led. Insures that needed equipment, supplies, and materials are available.
Obtains needed information or decisions from the supervisor on problems that come up during the work. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall operations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
- Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
- Must be able to work between the range of hours of 6am - 7pm, which may include weekends and holidays.
- This position has critical safety or security responsibilities and as such has been designated as a testing designated position (TDP).
- As a condition of employment, incumbent of a TDP is subject to a random drug test that occurs without suspicion that a particular individual is using illegal drugs.
- Health assessment and rabies vaccination is required.

Standard Qualifications:
Knowledge of animals' characteristics, needs and behavior, and skill in observing, handling and caring for animals. Able to follow complex instructions, ability to maintain records. Ability to inspect or lead the work of others
