This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Employees occupying these positions will provide emergency support to disaster-stricken areas throughout the United States. This position is a temporary position not to exceed (NTE) 1-year, however, at the discretion of management, the position may be converted to a term position up to a maximum not to exceed (NTE) 4-years

Duties

Works under general supervision of the Director who outlines the guidelines or objectives of assignments in terms of their relationship to the project. Independently plans the detailed steps necessary to manage the assigned programs and recommends changes in operating plans when necessary. Serve in the full performance capacity as a Park Ranger responsible for the overall management of specific assigned programs or for the management of portion of the project. Monitor real estate out grants to ensure compliance with instrument terms and conditions and public safety. Schedule patrols of project lands and waters to provide for protection and assistance and to interpret and enforce rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is an Intermittent position. You may be scheduled from 0 to 30 hours per week based on need.
  • Employees occupying these positions will provide emergency support to disaster-stricken areas throughout the US.
  • Employees must pass a stringent medical screening and be prepared to live and work in extremely austere conditions.
  • Work schedule will initially be arduous, with extensive overtime. Sleeping arrangements may be limited to using a sleeping bag or in the vehicle used to move from location to location.
  • Work may entail extended work shift of 12-16 hours a day.
  • Generally, indoor work location has power, water, heating, and air conditioning, although outages should be expected. Lack of sleep may occur due to long work hours and uncomfortable living conditions.
  • Environmental conditions at work locations may range from excessive heat and humidity to extreme cold and rainy.
  • Although some work is sedentary, work conditions such as ergonomic issues related to lifting and carrying, seating, or video display terminals; repetitive motion injury from using computers, and the like may be expected.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Planning activities in accordance with sound management principles for area resources; 2) Assisting in the administration of contracts to ensure that quality and quantity of performance meets specifications; AND 3) Monitoring visitor activity and enforcing public safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education with major study in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
