Duties
The Northern District of Alabama is currently seeking one attorney for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) opening in the Criminal Division, at the main office in Birmingham, Alabama. The Criminal Division investigates and prosecutes federal cases arising from a wide array of criminal activity. This posting is for a position in the white-collar and public corruption section. That section prosecutes a variety of federal criminal violations, including mail, wire, bank, healthcare, and cyber fraud; environmental crimes; and public corruption offenses.
The AUSA who fills this position may also prosecute a variety of crimes, primarily focused on violent crime, large-scale narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and related financial crimes.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information.

Qualifications
The successful applicant will be able to work equally well individually and in a team setting and will possess the judgment, skill, and fearlessness necessary to succeed as part of a fast-paced and aggressive prosecution team.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
United States citizenship is required.

Should exhibit superior research and writing skills
Should be attentive to detail
Should be comfortable handling document-intensive cases
Should have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work professionally with the court, opposing counsel, and agency partners
