This position serves as the Nutrition Communication Center Coordinator (NCCC) in the Nutrition and Food Service (N&FS) located in the Orlando VA Medical Center. The NCCC works with N&FS information systems and is responsible for maintaining the systems and resolving issues related to the N&FS systems as they arise throughout the medical center.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Resolves information technology issues related to integration of VISTA, Get Well Network/Touch Tone Dining and N&FS Systems.
Develops and updates nutrient databases on nutrition analysis of menu items served.
Makes menu/recipe changes and all necessary updates in food service system (any commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) program)
Troubleshoots and resolves all electronic or paper menu issues.
Consults with clinical nutrition staff to resolve tray ticket issues with complex diets.
Provides training and orientation for all N&FS employees.
Serves as NCC liaison between Veterans, multidisciplinary healthcare staff and N&FS staff.
Participates in performance improvement activities by assisting in the development of indicators and monitors, data collection and analysis, corrective actions, and preparation of reports.
Handles patient problems and complaints related to N&FS as appropriate.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including state, federal and Joint Commission.
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Rotating Schedule that includes weekends and holidays

Health Aid and Technician Series 0640 Individual Occupational Requirements: This occupational series has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) which is a minimum qualification requirement. To be considered for the position, you must ensure that the experience is reflected in your resume and/or if applicable, transcripts must be uploaded to support education requirement or substitution.Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: using computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work; preparing and serving food for consumption; expressing information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); making clear and convincing presentations; listening to others; attending to nonverbal cues, and responding appropriately; teaching, training, researching, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.

Education: Education generally not applicable at GS-06 level. Applicants may substitute education at this grade level with graduate education or an internship that is directly related to the work of the position. Combination of Experience & Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 9. Add the two percentages. Preferred Experience: At least one year experience utilizing customer service skills as it relates to food service, food safety, and training service staff.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Routine work requires repetitive motion activities of the hands and fingers for extensive phone, keyboard, and computer mouse use, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, intermittent/non-strenuous ambulation around all areas of the medical center, and carrying light items such as papers, books, portable scales, and food trays. Occasionally, duties may require the movement of audio-visual equipment and/or classroom area organization and driving an automobile.
