About the Position: Serve as the Supervisory Physical Scientist with the responsibility to direct and coordinate the activities in support of mission assignments within the Directorate, which include the chemical laboratory and agent monitoring areas.

Duties
Monitor daily operations and trends and to enable responsible personnel to take required action to ensure the validity of all data generated in the laboratory.
Initiates and monitors contracts and forecasts and recommends budgetary expenditures dealing with laboratory and monitoring functions.
Develops guidance for the training of operators of monitoring devices and associated equipment.
Responsible for the development of laboratory tests and analytical methods used to determine the accuracy and precision of analytical results, subsequently modifying or adapting standing procedures as necessary.
As Chief, Laboratory and Monitoring Division, has responsibility for management and supervision of all assigned personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Must qualify for and remain qualified for the Chemical Unescorted Access Program (UAP), AR 190-59.
- The incumbent of this position will work in or around Hazardous waste.
- A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

Basic Requirement: Physical Scientist
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 or above grade level in the Federal service which includes: Develop laboratory tests and analytical methods used to determine the accuracy and precision of analytical results and modify or adapt standing procedures; develop guidance for the training of operators monitoring devices and associated equipment; manage hazardous waste generated during igloo leaker isolation procedures, laboratory analysis, remedial operations and permitted or regulated facilities; maintain and manage Chemical Agent Monitoring Suit sheds and 90 day storage facilities.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
Term Appointment NTE - Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 2 Years. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
Current permanent Federal employees to include permanent Army employees applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
When a current Army employee applies to a JOA opened for a term appointment, the action will be a conversion to a term appointment.
