Duties

You must apply to each announcement separately if you wish to be considered under both recruitment methods. As an Electrician you will be working for the Denali National Park and Preserve. Denali is six million acres of wild land, bisected by one ribbon of road. Travelers along it sees the relatively low-elevation taiga forest give way to high alpine tundra and snowy mountains, culminating in North America's tallest peak, 20,310' Denali. Wild animals large and small roam un-fenced lands, living as they have for ages. Solitude, tranquility, and wilderness await. For more information visit: Denali National Park & Preserve (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov) Major duties will include: Maintains high voltage power lines, power generating equipment, underground power distribution systems with transformers, secondary power distribution and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements to different types of circuits. Performs all preventive maintenance, operational checks, troubleshooting, tracing, and locating defects and modification on all electrical systems park-wide, including primary/secondary distribution and hybrid and photovoltaic systems. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, repair manuals and related codes: National Electrical Code, Uniform Building Code, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety Code, NFPA 70A Electrical Code for 1 and 2 family dwellings. Determines proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems equipment, and controls. Plans and layout routing of distribution lines, distribution panels, transformers, circuits, and other electrical devices for proper electrical system operation. Career seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from mid-January through mid-December, approximately 11 months in pay status, and will be in non-pay for the remainder of the year. Incumbent will work with minors and needs a Childcare SAC background investigation.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: You must meet the two selective placement factors to qualify for this position: Selective placement factor #1: Within 6 months of start date, you are required to obtain a Journeyman Electrician license that requires a minimum of 8000 hours work experience subject to the National Electrical Code. A minimum of 6000 hours must be commercial/industrial. A maximum of 2000 hours may be residential. A maximum of 1000 hours of trade-related classroom training and/or 1000 hours of power lineman experience may be part of the 8000 hours requirement. No maintenance hours will be accepted, and Selective placement factor #2: Required to complete OSHA 1910.269 High Voltage Electrical Safety, Confined Space Training and Lockout/Tagout Training, and obtain forklift operator's certification from the Park, within six months of hiring. In addition to the selective placement factor listed above, to qualify for this position, you must also have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Trouble shooting (electrical) If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
