This position is located within Engineering Service, Plumbing Shop. The incumbent conducts a variety of duties as a journeyman level Plumber, which includes numerous skills in a variety of areas to include, but not be limited to planning, layouts and completion of installation, modification, repairing and utility, supply and disposal systems, gas, water and oil distribution systems, fire sprinkler systems, hot/cold water systems, steam traps, tubing, pumps, valves, welding, and some electrical.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Independently plans, layout, installs, modifies, and maintains repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as steam lines, return lines traps, unit heaters, hot water tanks, thermostatic valves, pipe covering, condensate pumps, pressure reducing valves, safety valves, chemical pumps, and other parts of a complete steam system, fire hydrants and post indicator valves. Independently reads and interprets specifications, blueprints, sketches, schematics, building plans, and equipment manuals, and installs equipment and utilities as required by these documents. Installs plumbing system parts that carry water, gas, air, storm, and sanitary sewerages; installs traps, lavatories, commodes, cast iron, plastic, glass, steel, clay and/or fiber pipe, PVC, CPVC, PEX, and PEX fittings, copper tubing, pipe and fittings, and other types of plumbing equipment. Maintains, adjusts, and re-calibrates timers and computers on lawn sprinkler systems. Performs tests after completion of install, seating, hooking up, etc. to ensure proper operation of equipment. Performs all tasks with little or no advice from supervisor and any other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm;Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency Position Description Title/PD#: Plumber/PD03466A Physical Requirements: Work involves/requires push, pull, reach, walks, stand, crawl, keel, bend, and work in cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained period of time and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent may lift, carry parts and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally over for considerable distance. Leg, arm, and back muscles are used extensively. Occasionally handles items weighting up to 100+ pounds. May be required to work from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and mechanical lifts.
