About the Position: This position is located in the Recoil Branch within the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC).
Duties
Serve as the technical and administrative supervisor over the Final Assembly Branch, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations.
Plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates.
Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures; instruct subordinates in new procedures; and provide advice when problems arise.
Develop performance standards, counsel employees on performance, and make formal and informal performance appraisals.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual physical examination.
Qualifications
Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Position may be made permanent without further competition.

The work of the position normally includes: leading or supervising Artillery Repairers, Equipment Installers, or General Equipment Assemblers in a manufacturing environment. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires incumbent to bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel. Lifts and moves equipment weighing 25 pounds and occasionally weighing up to 60 pounds; position item in test stands frequently requiring reaching and working in awkward positions; exercises patience and sensitivity in the senses of sight and touch required in lapping, polishing, adjusting, and aligning items.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside. Subject to skin and eye irritations from solvents, greases, oils, and hydraulic fluids; possible scratches, cuts, strains and abrasions when handling and assembling parts. Required to follow safety procedures and wear safety equipment such as safety shoes, ear plugs, glasses, gloves, and respirators. Exposed to injury in test situations due to the explosive potential of pressurized air, injury from liquids subject to pressures from 1,500 - 9,000 pounds per square inch.
