This position is located at the VA Medical Center in Nashville, TN. You will provide technical and interpretive procedural and administrative support and management for the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and reviews all research projects involving human subjects conducted by VA personnel at any institution or by non-VA personnel.
Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Creates step by step guidelines, local processing instructions, and templates for Principal investigators (PIs) and other key project personnel who submit applications for review by the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Conducts in-depth review and creates reports that summarize the results of his/her administrative review.
Provides in-depth scrutiny of complex documentation provided by the research investigators requesting review and approval by the IRB.
Assigns primary and secondary reviewers corelating the scientific methodology associated with the research project and the clinical and/or scientific expertise of the committee members insuring the protection of human research participants and to ensure that risk of harm to participants is minimized.
Analyzes application packages to determine the appropriate type of review by the board.
Conducts IRB electronic file reviews insuring appropriate approval documents have been completed and are included within submission and saved appropriately in the web based database.
Creates agenda, prepares all submissions for the IRB meetings, and prepares minutes.
Conducts quality assurance reviews as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am until 4:30 pm

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Program Analyst - Research. Specialized experience includes: Experience applying knowledge of policies, procedures and practices as they relate to human subjects research; Analyzing and interpreting government regulations, accreditation standards, agency policies and other guidance documents; Reviewing and assessing compliance of research proposals against regulations, policies and guidelines governing human subjects research; Communicating both verbally and in writing with individuals with diverse backgrounds. Education: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this Program Analyst - Research. Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. May require occasional travel.
