This position is located within the Environmental Management Services Division of a VA Medical Center. This position supervises Environmental Service Technicians (formerly Housekeeping Aids) who performs both janitorial and custodial services at the VA Medical Center located at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, Jackson, MS.
Duties
This position performs duties such as:
The position is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis.
Approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants.
Routinely inspects assigned areas to ensure the timely accomplishment of employee assignments, sanitation levels are maintained, equipment is properly cared for and that associated housekeeping objectives in an expedient and timely manner.
Responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor space.
Schedules regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives.
Plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities.
Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the usage of supplies to affect cost control within the unit.
Exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.

Performs within established guidelines, operating procedures and department and Medical Center policy.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM, including weekend work; subject to change based on Facility needs

Physical Requirements:
Physical Effort: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
Working Conditions: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
