This position is a WG-4102-09 Painter assigned to the Paint Shop under the Maintenance & Operations section of the Engineering Service, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. The primary purpose involves preparation and painting by minor maintenance and repair of interior and exterior surfaces. Painting building interiors and exteriors including other structures such as walls, piers, bridges, railings, curbing, road and parking lots striping.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform duties equivalent to a journeyman level, commercial and residential type painter, primarily in active hospital environment. Determine the methods, techniques, devices and materials that are best suited to the tasks at hand in that environment. Apply coting materials with any of the accepted trade devices such as brushes, rollers, spraying but also including those designed to give special effects to the surfaces or layout . Prepare coasting materials by timing, toning and matching, blending and mixing-in various additives. Apply latex products as well as various coating materials used in the painting trade; including nerosol spray canes, stains, varnishes, epoxies and polyurethane. Serve under the general supervision of the Paint Shop Supervisor. Resolve technical problems or consult with the supervisor. Physical Requirements: Required work assignments are performed in a number of physically demanding positions, such as standing, stooping kneeling and working long periods of time on ladders and rolling stages of scaffoldings. Employee should be in good physical share and health because of physical efforts required by the type of work. Employee must be able to handle heavy materials and work in close areas; also works in areas which are extremely hot and cramped such as the boiler area, the laundry areas and all areas which require outside exposure to all weather conditions. Working Conditions: Since most of the painting duties performed pertain to direct patient care and may involve their health issues, the employee must be constantly alert to complications which may develop and must perform their assignments fully and in an efficient manner. Employee might be required to work in undesirable conditions such as disagreeable noise levels, oily & greasy areas, exposure to extreme heat, chemicals, airborne bacteria and viruses which require (PPE) personal protective equipment be work. In addition, employee may be required to work in the outside environment with exposer to intense heat and sunlight. In conditions involving road work, bust have knowledge of traffic patterns and movements which require extreme safety and coordination between support elements. Employee must work in efficient and safe manner at all times.
