About the Position: Maintenance Mechanic Leader within Directorate of Public Works responsible for leading employees in the completion of trades and labor work to include carpentry, plumbing, painting and locksmithing.
Duties
Serve as working leader of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
Serve as acting Project Manager (PM) during absence of PM.
Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
Check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions.
Answer worker's questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g., technical orders)
Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examinations.
- This position requires a Secret security clearance.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.
- Business travel up to 10% of the time.
- Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
- May be required to alternate working hours on all shifts to include weekdays and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER without more than normal supervision. I can lead a team of tradespeople by providing clear instructions and technical guidance. While demonstrating proper work methods, I use various tools and machinery to execute maintenance tasks. Additionally, I monitor work in progress and provide feedback to supervisor. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Considerable standing, stooping, and bending are required by the work. Climbing and working from ladders and scaffolds in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions is occasionally necessary. Using a hammer and other hand tools necessitates considerable arm and hand movement and dexterity. Items weighing up to 50 pounds are lifted and carried. Items over 50 pounds are infrequently carried or others assist in movement.
Working Conditions: Work is done in the shop area and outside. Incumbent is subjected to cuts from hand and power tools and danger from flying chips and splinters. Exposure to sawdust in the air is frequent. Outside work is subject to various weather patterns such as cold, dust, mud, dampness, and heat. Work on roofs and ladders are required. Shop work is in a well-heated and cooled and ventilated building. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used).
