The selectee for this position will serve as a SUPERVISORY RESEARCH PHYSIOLOGIST in the WARFIGHTER PERFORMANCE DEPARTMENT of NAVHLTHRSCHCEN SDIEGO.

Duties

You will serve as subject-matter expert for Naval commands in the areas of physical performance and fitness measurement and assessment to help identify operational problems suitable for research You will serve as senior research physiologist in the development and execution of human performance research projects that address enhancement and restoration of human physical performance in operational environments You will provide expert guidance and assistance to Naval Health Research Center and operational forces within DoD in developing new areas of research Serve as senior research physiologist in the development and execution of human performance research projects that address development of physical fitness standards for Navy and Marine Corps personnel You will conduct research related to the enhancement of human cognitive and physical performance in Navy and Marine Corps operational environments You will manage the assessment of physical fitness, cognitive and personality attributes necessary for the successful performance of Navy and Marine Corps jobs You will manage programs responsible for the restoration of performance of wounded, ill and injured warfighters

Requirements

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience consulting in the planning, design, development, and execution of innovative human performance research projects that address measurement, enhancement, and restoration of human physical fitness in operational environments, biomedical interventions for improvement and of mission performance and development of physical fitness standards for personnel; Experience investigating operational problems, address through research, review methodological procedures, and evaluate potential solutions, and identify practical applications for research results; Experience leading personnel in development and implementation of multi-disciplinary research programs to guide the physical operational preparedness of military members and their care and restoration following injury or illness. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Applicants must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree or higher in one of the basic animal sciences or physiology; or a related discipline or field of science that included at least 24 semester hours in the basic animal sciences, of which 10 semester hours were in animal physiology.

Note: Courses such as anatomy; cytology; invertebrate and vertebrate zoology; embryology; entomology; animal, dairy, and poultry husbandry; nutrition; genetics; and physiology may be used to meet the 24-semester-hour requirement in the basic animal sciences.

Courses in physiology, animal or human physiology, cellular physiology, or courses that were well oriented toward animal or human physiology, e.g., some advanced courses in biochemistry, are qualifying as animal physiology courses. Courses in related fields such as cytology and microbiology (including microbial physiology) may also be qualifying, provided the course work dealt directly with the application of scientific principles underlying animal physiology, or with the methodology and techniques applied in animal physiology work.
