Duties
Uses technical methods and procedures of fisheries management to plan and accomplish a variety of fisheries projects.
Resolves fisheries related issues using basic skill theories and practices.
Uses computers to produce reports, maps, spreadsheets and retrieve data.
Reads maps and uses GPS equipment to determine locations.

GS-04: You must possess 6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience.at or equivalent to the GS-03 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity.
Examples of general experience:
Working in any professional, technical, or other responsible field that provided you with a familiarity of wildlife habitat characteristics or techniques of collecting scientific data.
Examples of specialized experience:
May include following specific instructions to check extensive data relating to the survey/study area;
Collecting samples;
Or observing and recording specific information (i.e., vegetative cover, water quality samples, flora or fauna).
-OR-Education: 2 years above high school with courses related to the occupation, if required.- OR-Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
GS-05: You must possess 1 year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity.
Examples of specialized experience:
May include banding, tagging, and releasing wildlife;
Inventorying rare and endangered species habitat based on guidelines;
And taking soil samples by layer and root samples.
Education: 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, if required.- OR-Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles.
Work Environment: Office work is performed in a setting that is adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated. When doing fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests or animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules.
Education
In addition to the experience requirements described in the Qualifications section of this announcement, you must meet the Individual Occupation Requirements of this position as follows:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Experience must have been related to the work of the position for which application is made. The specialized experience required for some positions in this series is normally work performed in a controlled environment. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
- Research activity or control program work.
- Nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment.
- Work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and sanitary conditions were kept in accordance with modern dairy practice.
Farming experience that was not performed in a controlled environment, or experience as a laborer who was not responsible for planning and scheduling his/her own work, but only performed assigned tasks, would not qualify as specialized experience.

Education and Training
For GS-3: Successful completion of l year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics.
For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled.
For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. The successful completion of a full course of study of at least 12 months in a school for clinical laboratory technicians may be substituted for the 1 year of specialized experience required at the GS-5 level for positions involving microbiology and biochemistry technician work.
Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5
only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.If using education to qualify, you must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university.
