This position has a full performance level of GS-07.

Duties

Operate, maintain, and inventory weed management equipment. Mix, maintain, and calibrate herbicides and pesticides for use in rangeland environments. Inventory, monitor, and map existing weed populations utilizing global positioning systems and topographic maps. Conduct rangeland rehabilitation and restoration projects. Prepare reports based on environmental assessments. Work with landowners and cooperators within the geographic area to ensure weed management efforts are successful. Higher level grades may serve as crew leaders for weed control, inventory, and rehabilitation projects. Organizing, scheduling, and executing assignments and reports. May train lower-level employees on duties involving weed management. May operate 4x4 vehicles and/or small farm tractors.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. To qualify for the GS-05 grade level, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to GS-4 level. Examples of specialized experience may include; conducting weed treatments under the supervision of another licensed pesticide applicator. Assisting with inventory, mapping, and monitoring weed infestations. Maintaining spraying equipment, and responsible for complying with proper application, storage, and handling of pesticides. OR Successful completion of a full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with a major forestry, range management, agriculture or a subject-matter field directly related to the position or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources, outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in math is creditable. OR A combination of experience and education to meet the total experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. Physical Demands: The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring running, walking, or bending; walking or climbing over rocky areas, through dense vegetation, and in mountainous terrain. The incumbent must be in good physical condition, be able to lift heavy objects, and perform strenuous physical activity for prolonged periods of time. The incumbent may be required to carry up to 45 pounds on his/her back over uneven terrain. Work Environment: Office work is performed in adequately lighted, heated, and air conditioned offices. Much of the time is spent in the field where exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, snakes, and other hazards are common. The incumbent will carefully adhere to all safety policies and procedures to mitigate hazards encountered.
