This position is located within the Nursing, Specialty Care Service line supporting clinic operations within the Surgical Clinics.

Duties

Duties include, but not limited to: Obtain and record accurate vital signs (height, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure) Gather information prior to testing/treatment Compiles, records, reviews, selects, and interprets medical data/information incidental to a variety of patient care and treatment activities Possess communication skills to work effectively and diplomatically with all SAVAHCS staff, patients, families, and significant others Extract and assemble information to develop reports/presentations Provides patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional and /or chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient Receive and work to resolve all customer complaints, referring unresolved complaints to supervisor Set-up patients for exams/procedures; explain the purpose of procedures; and insure patient understanding Assures all consults for Holter monitors and EKGs performed are acted upon in a timely manner (within seven calendar days) Incumbent will manage the MUSE database system Knowledge of routine office procedures, computer data entry, and use of the EMR Work Schedule: 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/31/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: identify irregularities in patient cardiac rhythm and utilize knowledge of cardiac rhythms to verify the data that is provided by EKG and the Holter scanning software; perform analysis of ECG data from Holter monitor to create report, evaluate scan for provider notification criteria; manage the MUSE database system. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have six months of graduate education or an internship with courses related to the occupation. OR, Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. Examples are listed below:(a) Six months of experience in the health care field and three months of graduate education in health care related courses such as, biological science, surgical technician courses, nursing assistant or other courses related to the position. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Clinical Data Collection/DocumentationCommunicationPatient CareTechnical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work performed requires regular and recurring periods of prolonged walking throughout the medical center. It also requires regular and recurring physical exertion assisting patients onto procedure tables, assisting patients in and out of wheelchairs, positioning patients, standing for prolonged periods, reaching, bending and lifting light loads.
