About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is with the 21st Signal Brigade, located in Fort Detrick, Maryland.

Duties

Responsible to direct junior technical personnel in performance of the overall telecommunications mission operations of multiple facilities. Provides advanced knowledge on Service Delivery Nodes using routers and switches. The experience shall include planning, designing, and implementing complex telecommunication upgrades to terrestrial systems and satellite communication earth terminals. Recommends selections, promotions, awards, and disciplinary actions. Provides on-the-job training and technical assistance to all newly assigned personnel. Prepares and provides formal classroom training and instruction for all assigned personnel. Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 35 pounds is required.
  • This position may require shift work and require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe one year of specialized experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Such experience is typically in or directly related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience would be demonstrated by recommending methods for enhancing the efficiency of complex telecommunication systems; providing innovative solutions for resolving problems associated with telecommunication networks and technology; identifying and arranging telecommunication systems training needs for personnel; and maintaining various telecommunications equipment. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
