You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Work Control Group Division, Repair Department of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR. Pay Range: GS-09: $67,147 - $87,291 PA GS-10: $73,944 - $96,124 PA

Duties

You will investigate the scope of maintenance, exchange technical information, collect data, develop documentation, and coordinate maintenance efforts. You will provide expertise in the area of work control procedures and authorization with completion of the process prior to involving shops at the worksites. You will act as a point of contact for all trades, ships force, and outside activities to schedule, open and close, and accomplish all shipboard work in tanks and confined spaces. You will represent Work Control Group at critiques, refit planning meetings, process improvement teams, and Lean Rapid Improvement Events. You will coordinate all shop inspections and work in tanks and confined spaces.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and nonionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

Qualifications

For the GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector analyzing and evaluating technical engineering documents to resolve technical deficiencies with equipment or testing, and develop improved procedures in support of ship or submarine repairs. Examples of qualifying experience include but not limited to: Reviewing Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) and Technical Work Documents (TWDs). Conducting third party review of posted tags for Intermediate level maintenance. Coordinating all shop inspections and work in tanks and confined spaces and interacting with management and trades responsible for execution of productions tasks in tanks or confined spaces. Researching and recommending approaches to resolve technical deficiencies in support of submarine or ship repairs. For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector interpreting technical engineering documents, to resolve technical deficiencies with equipment or testing, and recommend improved procedures, to support ship or submarine repair. Examples of qualifying experience include but not limited to: Preparing Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) and Technical Work Documents (TWDs). Reviewing and approving proposed Ship's Force tag-outs. Performing opening inspection of tanks and confined spaces. Coordinating all shop inspections of tanks and confined spaces. Recommending improved procedures in support of submarine or ship repairs. Education

This position allows for substitution of education for the GS-9 grade level.
